ＵＳオープングランプリ（ＧＰ）ゴールド最終日、参加した日本選手の中で唯一勝ち残った女子ダブルス、脇田侑・江藤理恵組（世界ランク26位）が、初のＧＰ決勝戦に臨んだ
対戦相手は、前週のカナダＧＰ準決勝で１―２（21-19,17-21,16-21）と惜敗した台湾のチェン・ウェンシン／チェン・ユーチン組（世界４位）。第１ゲームは8-21と大差で落とすが、第２ゲームは終盤まで追いつ追われつの緊迫した展開。19-20と先にマッチポイントを握られるも、いったん20-20に追いつく。ただそこから２連続ポイントを奪われ20-22で敗れた。データからは、スマッシュによる得点力の差が見て取れる
日本リーグ初のクラブチーム、トリッキーパンダース（Ｔｒｉ-Ｐａｎ）に所属する脇田・江藤組は、ジョホールバルで開催されたマレーシアオープンＧＰゴールドを皮切りに、カナダ、米国と３週連続の国際大会出場で、それぞれベスト８、ベスト４、準優勝という好成績を残した。また、各大会で敗れた相手がいずれも優勝を遂げている
この結果を受け世界ランクの上昇が期待される。ただ同組は、日本バドミントン協会の規定により、１つの大会でより多くのポイントを稼げる、ジャパンオープンを含むスーパーシリーズ（ＳＳ）12戦への参加が認められておらず、今後もＧＰへの参戦を繰り返して地道にポイントを積み重ねていくことになりそうだ
一方、ＵＳオープンＧＰゴールドの男子ダブルスで優勝した台湾のファン・チーミン／ リー・ シェンム組は、シンガポールオープンＳＳ、インドネシアオープンＳＳ、カナダオープンＧＰに続く４連覇の偉業を達成。世界ランクも８位まで駆け上がり、今後の活躍に注目が集まる
US Open Grand Prix(GP) Gold women’s doubles final, Yu WAKITA/Rie ETO of Japan (World Ranking No.26) challenged to Taiwanese pair, CHENG Wen Hsing/CHIEN Yu Chin (WR No.4) , who beat them in the semi finals of Canada Open GP last week
After losing the 1st game quite easily (8-21), Japanese pair fought back in the 2nd. The score moved to 19-19 then Taiwanese grabbed the match point. However Yu and Rie never gave up and leveled the score 20-20 once again. In the end, they were defeated 20-22 though
Yu and Rie belong to Tricky Pandas (Tri-Pan), the first ever club team in the badminton league of Japan. In last 3 weeks, they participated three consecutive international tournaments named Malaysian Open GP Gold, Canada Open GP and US Open GP Gold and reached Quarter-Finalist, Semi-Finalist and The 1st runner-up respectively
Yu and Rie are aiming for higher ranking of the world. However, under current regulation of Nippon Badminton Association (NBA), they are not allowed to participate in any of 12 Super Series (SS) tournaments including upcoming Yonex Open Japan, since they are not member of National Team of Japan
